Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter was established in 1896 and helps thousands of lost, unwanted, neglected, abused and abandoned animals every year.  Our objective is the promotion of kindness and prevention of cruelty to animals.

We reunite lost animals with their owners and find loving new homes for those no longer wanted.   Our experienced staff at our Claremont Road Arrivals Centre carry out behaviour training with the animals before they are rehomed as well as providing veterinary treatment and special care for animals who arrive injured or sick and also to vulnerable and abused animals.

All animals looking for homes are at our Benton North Farm Rehoming & Visitor Centre. We are open to visitors on afternoons  7 days a week. Please check our website http://www.dogandcatshelter.com for up to date opening hours.   Adopting an animal is a very rewarding experience and all of our animals are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and come with 4 weeks’ free pet insurance and a free veterinary health check for peace of mind.

Our Benton North Farm shelter is also home to our resident horses, ponies, donkeys, pigs, sheep, goat and ex-battery chickens. We have a team of dedicated staff who care for the animals on a daily basis and a team of volunteers who assist with dog walking, cat cuddling, fundraising and more.
